 Ildiko Pongor

Ildiko Pongor is considered a classic ballet jewel in the Hungarian crown. Her education began at the Hungarian Dance Academy and concluded at the Vaganova Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia. As a member of the Hungarian National Ballet Company since 1972, her highly regarded career included almost every major role in the HNBC repertoire as well as outstanding interpretations in ballets by Béjart, Balanchine, Kylian, Van Manen, Bourneville, MacMillan, Pártay, Fodor and Laszlo.

Very much in demand as a guest artist, Pongor was invited twelve times to Japan and toured North America four times. She has been a permanent guest artist of the Staatsoper of Vienna, a leading soloist in Stockholm for many years, and has danced in every major city of Europe. Pongor’s talents have taken her to Mexico, South Korea, Hong Kong, Canada, and Taiwan as well as across the European continent--- to much public acclaim.

Considered as much a contributor as well as an ambassador of Hungary, Ildikó Pongor has been the recipient of the Ferenc Liszt Award and the Merited Artists Award, Kossuth Award, Honored Artist’s Award, Commander’s Cross Order of Merit of the Hungarian Republic and is honored as “an Eternal Member of the Opera House” in recognition of her exceptional citizenship.

Currently active as a HNBC Ballet Master and a guest of many international ballet galas in the USA, the Gala des Etoiles (Canada) and the World Stars at the Hungarian State Opera House which acts as a philanthropic enterprise on behalf of the aid of disadvantaged children in Hungary.
