Biography Peter Breuer

Peter Breuer was born in Tegernsee ,Germany , the son of Pianist and Conductor Peter Bruno Breuer.

At the age of eleven he began ballet lessons with Gustav Blank , renowned fort he traditional Vaganova School of St.Petersburg. He had his first contract with 15 at the „Bavarian State Opera Munich“ followed in the age of 17 by  a soloist contract with the „Ballett of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf/ Duisburg“. His international career began in 1969 as a principal dancer guest star with the world famous „ London Festival Ballet „1971  led to permanent engagements  with „ The Deutsche Oper Berlin „ and the „Bavarian State Opera Ballet Munich„. in 1973 he became a permanent member of the „ London Festival Ballet „ 1979 he was guesting with American Ballet Theatre ,Balletto de la Scala Milano.

Tours led him to Australia, South America, Spain , Yugoslavia, Polen, France, Czech Republique, U.S.A, Venezuela ,Japan and the Philippines

Through the 1980`s Peter Breuer was  considered one of the leading dancers of the international Ballet world.

His first  Choreography was presented in 1981  for Bavarian State Opera  Munich, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, The German State Opera Berlin and the Budapest State Opera.He created two full evenings Ballets , Tschaikowsky and Siegfried ,fort he State Ballet of Karlsruhe –Germany.

Since the Season 1991/1992 Peter Breuer is the Ballet director and resident choreographer of The State Theater of Salzburg (Salzburg-Ballett). Peter is well known for his tradition of “storytelling” ballets and received highly encouraging critical acclaim by critics and audiences for his ballets like :
“Peer Gynt“,“Orpheus and Eurydike“, “A Midsummernights Dream“ ,“Marylin“ ,“Romeo and Julia“, “ Sleeping Beauty “, “ Therese Raquin“, “Tschaikowsky “, “ Carmen “as well as his innovative ballets “Angels“, “Lulu“ and “Bach and Drums” and “ The Wall“ In 2011/2012 he created the Ballet “ Elements”, “Beatles“ and later“ Ballet’n Blues“.His most recent ballets included“ Marie Antoinette“, a modern version o “The Puppenfee“. In their season 2013/2014 he  choreographed a new version of “ Swan Lake “ . The ballet season  2013/2014 opened with his production of “ Nutcracker“ as well his recent Rock ballet  “ Dance for Satisfaction“. His 50th full length ballet was in 2016 Mythos Coco.

His Company, The Salzburg Ballett  is touring regularly through Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Slovenia.

Peter Breuer received the  Great Cross of Honor of the Austrian Government  and just now the “ German Dance /Ballet Prize 2015“ for his lifework as a dancer and choreographer, the highest dance award  in the dance world from Germany ,Austria and Switzerland . Website , Facebook
